A complete sentence needs a subject and a finite verb. A run-on joins complete ideas without clear punctuation or a connector.
Examples
- Fragment: Because the library was closed. Complete: Because the library was closed, we studied at home.
- Run-on: I revised late I missed the last bus. Repair: I revised late, so I missed the last bus.
- Complete: The tutor explained the method clearly.
Common mistake
Do not join two full sentences with only a comma; use a full stop, semicolon, or a connector.
