Learn
Evidence gives a detail. Explanation tells the reader why the detail proves or develops the point. Both are needed in a persuasive paragraph.
Examples
- Claim: Peer mentoring helps new students settle in.
- Evidence: A mentor shows a new student where to find subject notes.
- Explanation: This reduces uncertainty and helps the student ask questions earlier.
Common mistake
Do not repeat the evidence in different words; add the reason it supports the claim.
