## Learn Evidence gives a detail. Explanation tells the reader why the detail proves or develops the point. Both are needed in a persuasive paragraph.
### Examples 1. Claim: Peer mentoring helps new students settle in. 2. Evidence: A mentor shows a new student where to find subject notes. 3. Explanation: This reduces uncertainty and helps the student ask questions earlier.
### Common mistake Do not repeat the evidence in different words; add the reason it supports the claim.
